Louis Sachar has won many awards for his books. His greatest achievement
was 'Holes'. He won the *America's Best Book* award in 2000, but the book was originally published in 1998.He has written
many other award winning books since then.
When he graduated in 1976 he decided to try to write a young children's
book. Which eventually became Sideways stories from Wayside school. All the kids at Wayside were based on children he had
known at school. In his spare time he like to play bridge. You can often find him at the bridge club in Austin, or at a British
tournament somewhere around the country.
